Rocky Mountain National Park has over 355 miles of diverse and beautiful hiking trails, from casual strolls to hiking the 14,000 ft. Long’s Peak. If you’re looking for wildlife this is the place to go. Park Rangers can provide advice about trails which are appropriate to different fitness and experience levels. Coyote Valley Trailhead
Level of Difficulty: Easy and Handicap Accessible
Length: 1 Mile One-Way
This trailhead is situated 5.5 miles from the west entrance of RMNP and is an easy stroll through the Kawuneeche Valley. Perfect for families and people still adjusting to the altitude. This hike will provide scenic views of the Rockies and beautiful nature surrounds you. Keep your eyes open for wildlife on this trial.
Lulu City
Level of Difficulty: Moderate
Length: 3.7 Miles One-Way
This trailhead is located about 10 miles from the west entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. This hike parallels the upper reaches of the Colorado River and leads you to an 1880’s gold mining camp of Lulu City. Great hike for you history buffs! In 1977, this site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Not much remains of this site today, but old remains from cabins and other structures.
Mount Ida
Level of Difficulty: Difficult
Length: Approx. 5 Miles One-Way
The trailhead is located at the Summit of Milner Pass on the Continental Divide. It’s approximately 16 miles north of the west entrance of the National Park. With an elevation gain of over 2,000 ft., this hike is tough but worth the climb! Once you’ve reached the top, you will love the amazing panoramic views of several mountain ranges in the area. Since most of this hike is above tree line you should remain aware of the weather conditions. Be sure to pack appropriate supplies. An early start is highly recommended.
